Wendy and Jenny get on their bikes for WinterFest

Intrepid duo Wendy McCarthy and Jenny Watsham are getting on their bikes for a 300 mile ride in aid of Brightlingsea WinterFest’s Wellbeing Fund.

Their epic effort is taking place throughout February, to coincide with WinterFest and they are appealing for support so that they can raise as much as possible for the fund, which helps people in Brightlingsea to improve their mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Wendy, who works at the Tesco shop in Brightlingsea and Jenny, her former colleague, who now works in a local care home, are aiming to cycle 75 miles a week.

Wendy said: “We both live in Brightlingsea and have worked out a five mile route around the town, setting off from Tesco and will be doing circuits of the route. We’re planning to cycle 15 miles a day five days a week in February. At least, cycling locally, if our bikes break down, we will be able to walk home!

“It’s great to be raising funds for such a good cause, I’ve been involved in WinterFest since it started 10 years ago and it is such a brilliant thing for the town. We are hoping that customers in Tesco will donate sponsorship money in the collection box we have at the tills. People can also use the QR code to donate to the WinterFest Wellbeing Fund.”

Alix Sheppard, co-founder of Brightlingsea WinterFest said: ‘We want to wish Wendy and Jenny good luck for their epic 300 mile cycle ride and thank them so much for their fantastic effort for the Wellbeing Fund.’
