Brightlingsea WinterFest’s positive impact on the community has been celebrated at the prestigious BBC Essex Make a Difference Awards.
WinterFest was highly commended in the Community Group category – which recognised organisations which have helped to change the lives of people in their communities – at the awards ceremony, held at Hatfield Place in Hatfield Peverel on Thursday, September 11.
The annual festival of arts, music, spoken word and wellbeing activities was one of four finalists. Recognition was given to the way WinterFest raises community spirit and supports people in the town through the WinterFest Wellbeing Fund.
Co-founder Alix Sheppard, said: “It is very rewarding to be highly commended in these awards during WinterFest’s 10th anniversary year and it is recognition of the work so many people put in to make the festival such a success and to make such a difference in our community.”
The category winner was the Underdog Crew, which works with at risk young people in Colchester.
