Brightlingsea WinterFest is to make summertime brighter for many families and organisations in the town, with the offer of grants from money raised at this year's festival.
A total of £4,000 is to be distributed by the WinterFest Wellbeing Fund, thanks to the success of WinterFest 2020, which took place in February.
Eight grants of £250 each are available for organisations in Brightlingsea and Co-op vouchers are on offer for families in the town who are struggling to cope during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The WinterFest Wellbeing Fund has purchased enough vouchers for 40 families to each receive vouchers worth £50 and a kind donation of £100 worth of extra vouchers from the the East of England Co-op means that a further two families can receive help.
WinterFest has also made a donation of £1,200 to the mental health charity Mid and North East Essex MIND from the funds raised at this year's festival, an annual event featuring music, arts and spoken word.
Alix Sheppard and Dave Griffiths, co-founders of WinterFest said in a joint message: “We are very pleased to be able to offer these grants and vouchers to organisations and families in Brightlingsea who have been hit by a wide range of difficulties caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
“The help we can offer has been made possible because of the amazing support we had from local people and businesses for this year's WinterFest which, very fortunately, was held before lockdown was introduced.
“It was the best ever WinterFest, with the focus on wellbeing and will remain in people's minds as a happy memory in a very challenging year.
“We want to give grants to local organisations who make a positive contribution to the town and also give a helping hand to Brightlingsea families who have been finding it hard to make ends meet.”
The £50 vouchers for families are not available for purchasing alcohol, tobacco or lottery tickets. The organisations receiving grants will be asked to give feedback after six months on how the money was spent.
