Brightlingsea WinterFest's Wellbeing Fund has announced the welcome news that the fund is now open all year round for grant applications.
Families, individuals and organisations in the town are eligible for grants from the fund which distributes money raised by WinterFest, Brightlingsea's much-loved festival of music, arts and spoken word.
The 2021 event, held throughout February, was staged online due to Covid restrictions, but its popularity resulted in more than £2,000 in donations for the Wellbeing Fund, which gives grants for activities or equipment to improve people's wellbeing,
Alix Sheppard and Dave Griffiths, co-founders of WinterFest said in a joint message: “Over the summer we have been able to give grants for Pilates sessions and tickets to Colchester Zoo and Jump Street. We have given a grant to the innovative Bread and Roses barge project, which is setting up a floating bakery offering therapeutic workshops. A grant has also been given to the Pulse Performers for new equipment.
“A grant of £100 was given to help a young local boy to have therapy treatment in the USA. We are also planning to give Brightlingsea Lido a grant to enable more people to use this wonderful facility.
“A proportion of the money raised by WinterFest is given to the mental health charity, Mid and North East Essex Mind.
“There is still money left in the Wellbeing Fund's pot, so we will be keeping the fund open all year round, as people have ideas at different times and many families are still facing a lot of challenges.”
Brightlingsea residents can apply for a maximum of £100 which will be given in vouchers, items or activities which can be purchased by the WinterFest committee, as cash grants will not normally be given.
Funding will be granted for activities and items which improve people's wellbeing such as sports activities, sports equipment, family days out, music or arts lessons or clubs.
Local organisations whose work contribute to people's wellbeing can also make applications to the fund.
